Aubrieta hybrida ‘Axcent™ Deep Purple’ USPP (Rock Cress) forms a low carpet of evergreen leaves that are covered with lavender-purple flowers for several weeks each spring. Perfect for a rock or alpine garden, and as a groundcover, it will gracefully cascade over walls and rocks. Aubrieta is reliably waterwise once established and can handle the harsh heat of summer, even in a rock garden. Its abundant flowers provide early-season pollen to awakening bees. Aubrieta hybrida ‘Axcent™ Deep Purple’ USPP (Rock Cress), forms a low carpet of evergreen leaves. Plant it in a full sun location in average soil with good drainage. Water moderately to establish. It is also lovely in a container and can bring early color to a patio or entry. Plant them with crocus, Muscari, daffodils, and other early spring bulbs for a beautiful display. Trim back plants when flowering has finished to encourage thick growth. Native to the Mediterranean region, it is a cold-hardy plant that is a low-maintenance solution for xeric spring color. Hardy in zones 6-9, its foliage is evergreen.
